San Leandro Man Identified After Getting Hit and Killed by BART Train

Alameda County Coroner's office identified Cecilio Profeta Santiago, Jr., 63, who was killed around 4:18 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hayward station, the Mercury News reports.

A San Leandro man has been identified after getting hit and killed by a Daly City-bound BART train at the Hayward station on Tuesday, the Mercury News reports.

Alameda County Coroner's office identified Cecilio Profeta Santiago, Jr., 63, who was killed by around 4:18 p.m., the Mercury News reports.

Though police investigators have not yet announced the reasoning behind Santiago's death, a coroner's spokeswoman told the Mercury News on Wednesday that it appeared he jumped in from of the train.

The incident caused major delays throughout southern Alameda County — BART had to shut down service from San Leandro to Fremont until 7:06 p.m.

A BART spokesperson told the Mercury News that 25 of the 56 trains used on Tuesday evening ran late due to the fatality.
