Update: Suspect Arrested from Saturday's Shooting

San Leandro's Saturday attempted homicide suspect has been arrested in Oakland.

On Saturday, Aug. 24, shots were heard in the parking lot of an apartment complex on the 2700 block of San Leandro Boulevard.

The suspect, last seen heading north on San Leandro Boulevard, has been found and arrested.

On Monday, Aug. 26, around 1:38 p.m., the Crime Suppression Unit located a vehicle associated to the San Leandro shooting. The vehicle was found in the area of St. Elmo Drive and Stoneford Avenue in Oakland. During an enforcement stop, officers tried to contact the suspect and the suspect displayed a firearm. An San Leandro Police Department officer discharged his weapon one time, fearing for his safety. The suspect, not struck by gunfire, dropped his firearm and attempted to run away. He was then immediately taken into custody with the assistance of a police canine.

Lt. Randall Brandt stated, “This is reminder that keeping the community safe is not an easy task. Protecting the community from violence is a priority and Officers continue to rise up to the policing challenges.” 

This incident is currently being investigated and the name(s) of the suspect(s) are forth-coming.
