Teen Arrested After Attempting to Rob Necklace Off Woman's Neck

A witness saw the attempted robbery and detained the teenage suspect until police arrived at the scene, police said.

A teenager was arrested for attempting to rob a necklace from a female victim Monday afternoon in San Leandro, police said.

At about 2 p.m. two women were walking in the 15000 block of Hesperian Boulevard, near Halcyon Drive, when a suspect attempted to rob one of them, police said.

The juvenile suspect walked passed the two women and then approached one of them from behind. He attempted to rip a gold necklace from the victim's neck, but the necklace broke and he dropped it, police said.

The victim was able to recover her necklace, according to police.

A witness saw the attempted robbery and detained the teenage suspect until police arrived at the scene, police said.

The juvenile was arrested and booked into juvenile hall, according to police.
