San Leandro Police Find Guns and Drugs During Traffic Stop, Four Suspects Arrested

Guns and drugs were seized during traffic stops in San Leandro on Friday night and early Saturday morning, police said. The first incident occurred on Friday at about 8:50 p.m. when a patrol officer stopped a vehicle in the 700 block of Lewelling Boulevard for a traffic violation.

The officer spoke with the driver and saw about 3 ounces of marijuana on the back seat of the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed two loaded handguns concealed in the vehicle, a .357 magnum and a .22 caliber pistol, according to police.

Police also recovered four grams of methamphetamine and four grams of hashish. The driver of the vehicle, Roman Rodriquez, 25, of San Lorenzo was arrested for possession of two loaded, concealed firearms in the vehicle and possession of narcotics and paraphernalia. Joseph Tavita, 25, San Leandro was taken into custody for an outstanding misdemeanor arrest warrant.

Alicia Colon, 23, of Hayward, was arrested on drug-related charges, police said. Early on Saturday morning, an officer patrolling in the 1300 block of Washington Avenue noticed a vehicle with two occupants parked in front of Nation's Giant Hamburgers at the Washington Plaza Shopping Center.

The officer made contact with the driver and smelled marijuana wafting from the vehicle. Upon searching the vehicle, police found two empty ammunition magazines for an assault rifle and a loaded and concealed .45 caliber handgun inside the vehicle. Samuel Montoya, 30, of Oakland, was arrested on firearms violations.
