Originally founded as a ministry of the First Christian Church in 1970, Davis Street became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1990. The center has evolved from a thrift store, food pantry and childcare center to a multi-service agency offering family and youth counseling, free medical care, family support services and childcare, at four locations. </p> <p>Davis Street's Child Development Centers, which collectively provides care for 350 children, aged 2 years, 9 months through fifth grade, are located at three elementary schools in the San Leandro School District: Garfield, route: {:controller=>"listings", :id=>"garfield-elementary-school-5", :action=>"show"} -->, Roosevelt and Jefferson<!-- name: . The fourth center, the <a href="https://www.davisstreet.org/TextPages/davis_street_child_development_center.aspx">Davis Street Children's Center</a><a href="https://www.davisstreet.org/TextPages/davis_street_child_development_center.aspx"></a>, is licensed to care for up to 60 children aged 2 years, 9 months until kindergarten entry. This center is located at 1190 Davis St. </p> <p>Other services provided through the Davis Street Family Resource Center include parenting classes, mentoring programs, mental health services and job training and placement assistance. There's also an on-site computer lab. </p> <p>With funding from the federal stimulus program, Davis Street launched its Mid-County Housing Resource Center, which provides monetary support and case management for low-income families at risk of losing their housing. </p>

Two kindergarten classes are offered, from 8:10am to 11:40am and from 9:30am to 1:45pm. All 1st to 3rd graders attend class from 8:10am to 2:05pm, with an optional Reading Academy from 2:15pm to 3pm. All 4th and 5th graders attend school from 8:10am - 3pm. Roosevelt is also home to the Davis Street Family Resource Center's Child Development Center, which offers before- and after-school enrichment programs for children ages K - 12. The center is licensed to care for 150 children. Led by Principal Victoria Forrester, the school also has a PTA, Dad's Club and LGBTQ-Straight Alliance.
