First 5 Alameda County is the county operator of Every Child Counts, a state program that focuses on early childcare,…More education, health care, social services and special needs children. The program is paid for with revenue from the Prop 10 tobacco tax.
A nine-member volunteer commission, appointed by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, oversees First 5 Alameda County. Commission meetings are held bi-monthly and are open to the public.
Programs include professional and informal training programs, funding and technical assistance to improve the quality of childcare facilities, parenting programs and early childhood mental health services. First 5 also gives grants to non-profit and public agencies for work in the areas of family support and promotion of early childhood health and wellness.
