First 5 Alameda County is the county operator of Every Child Counts, a state program that focuses on early childcare,…More education, health care, social services and special needs children. The program is paid for with revenue from the Prop 10 tobacco tax. </p> <p>A nine-member volunteer commission, appointed by the Alameda County Board of Supervisors, oversees First 5 Alameda County. Commission meetings are held bi-monthly and are open to the public.</p> <p>Programs include professional and informal training programs, funding and technical assistance to improve the quality of childcare facilities, parenting programs and early childhood mental health services. First 5 also gives grants to non-profit and public agencies for work in the areas of family support and promotion of early childhood health and wellness. </p>
