the place may be looking for help, but are they really open right now ? they got to get smart andRead More let people that you ARE OPEN . the place next to them , Nicks has the people and you see cars in the parking lot , this re named place got to have a sign spinner out front on the side walk to let people know that byou are really open . but you say you are open at 8am in the morning ? thats what you say in the san leandro times but are you what for breakfast ? still people are not going 10 miles a hour just to see if you are open or not . that one little window sign does not bring people in . get some cars from the apartments across the street to part in your lot let people think you are busy . still you need a sign spinner out ftont .
How will the remodeled Foothill Square Shopping Center affect San Leandro?
Kareta Tweedy Williams May 16, 2013 at 06:09 pm
Foothill Square was in great need of a Revamp. I grew up in the neighborhood and I myself know thatRead More it is a great area to shop. It was hard to see them close the laundromat down because I was a frequent customer but to see something Great come to East Oakland is wonderful. Thank you for bringing some life back to Oakland!!!!!!!
rodson pratt May 15, 2013 at 10:14 am
I'm happy they're trying to revitalize an area that sorely needs it but will I cross the border toRead More shop there? no.

if the people that live by the windmill would only get some smarts and buy the land but not all theRead More home owners that live in that compond can se that lovely windmill at work . now all those people on the far north end does not even know whats on the other side .
Charlie Goldie May 13, 2013 at 05:17 pm
David, I find it difficult to follow your line of logic. You have not read my comments thoroughly. IRead More have decided not to continue further discussion on the subject. Ken, I do not understand what "compound" you are referring to. Gate's Foundation is working in Africa and Asia. They are attempting to help with vaccinations and sanitation.
David May 13, 2013 at 12:52 pm
Yes, yes, now global cooling is part of global warming. Sometimes global warming can also causeRead More global cooling. Now it's just "climate change." 1) Climate always changes, just like the weather, 2) we're not any warmer now than we were back when Vikings colonized Greenland, or when the Romans grew wine grapes around London(inium). 3) what do immigration laws have to do with this windmill? Generally I think the immigration laws, as they are, are stupid and pointless at best, and actively destructive at worst. But that's not really germane to the windmills.

Such a poetic response!
Fred Eiger April 14, 2013 at 02:27 pm
What a silly question. Are you anti liquor?

Milwaukee, where I grew up went through a similar phase in the 90's. terrible schools, industriesRead More closing, population shrinking and too-high unionization rates. Since the establishment of vouchers, in the 90's, improving the schools, and improving the business climate, despite relatively high taxes and regulations there too, the population has grown a bit, jobs and wages have stabilized.
David April 11, 2013 at 08:00 am
San leandro reflects the shifting of the nature and population of the "middle class".Read More After The War, with the rest of the world communist or bombed to zero, unskilled metal benders could charge premium prices and have unions demanding inflated wages. These unskilled workers cannot remain in the middle class anymore with added global competition. The choice or result in communities then is either they gentrify by shifting their focus to more skilled work, high tech or whatever you want to call it. This is supported by low barriers to starting a business and good schools, of which, san leandro barely has the former (and is hurt by being in California, the worst state to start or run a business). Without these, the unskilled population has slid further downscale, something san leandrans are doing and seeing. Not every city, and certainly not san leandro, can have google. With attractions for higher skilled businesses (LIT etc), perhaps SL can avoid continued ghettoizing. Better schools would help that effort tremendously. A better state environment would also help (not just us, but take a looks at the devastation the idiots in Sacramento have wreaked on the Central Valley.

FOR SHOES , you got to go to a shoe store in Hayward called The Cobbers at 22443 Foothill blvd byRead More A street phone 510 582 7761 . I had to get some new shoes and being that I broke my heel and had to have pins put in my right foot, I found that the stores , shoe store at bayfair sucks , but this store in hayward will take time to help you in what you want and need .

In terms of shutters, it looks like Mr. Bagel on E 14th St. is closed :( newspapers are lining theRead More insides of the windows right now, and when I tried to call them it said their number has been disconnected and is no longer in service.

Ya, can't wait to check the new remodel out. Anyone know if they changed any of the food or cooks?Read More Nothing wrong with them, just don't know.
Al April 4, 2013 at 06:39 pm
We are delighted to hear they will be serving dinners soon. Downtown needs additional dinner spotsRead More that charge reasonable prices. We love Englander's but it gets too crowded to get into on weekends. Bring in more good places that are reasonably priced!

Is there any other information that addresses the concerns of the EBRPD? You've presented thisRead More action as strictly limited to this property and the one windmill being approved, can you please expand upon what the unintentional impacts EBRPD is referring to in their letter. Does the "no further comment" refer back to other comments?

And by the way. It doesn't take a whole lot of money buy a F'N turbine. I just choose not to rob ourRead More tax payers of subsidies that are involved. But you are too stupid to even know about something like that PROPHEAD. Do some homework idiot... And guessing from your post you have no shame in purchasing said turbine. WHY? Because it's cool, and green, it matches my Prius and I am getting all these "rebates". YEP! REBATES you ass-hat. In other words, SUBSIDIES. Where did you think the rebate was coming from DICK!

Congratulation Zocalo! Also, Thanks to the Patch for mentioning Gold & Bare Tanning. We'veRead More actually have been in the Top 3 for Tanning Salons on the Bay List for the entire Bay Area and the #1 Tanning Salon in the East Bay for the last 3 years. It's nice to see so many other local San Leandro businesses striving for and hitting the top! Lots of my favorite places are on the list!

Thanks for the kind words Tom. It's been a privilege to be host to such a supportive community andRead More wonderful staff.
Marga Lacabe May 4, 2013 at 12:26 am
Come on! I'm all for having a gossip column on the Patch, but couldn't it be about people with someRead More actual connection to the city?
Marga Lacabe May 1, 2013 at 03:30 pm
Question, do these job offerings reflect the demographics of those you think are reading the Patch?

I have actually tried to back out of this What's For Work Promotion because I have taken theRead More volunteer route for finding a job. When I tried to do that from their website, I was sent to a page that was down. Hm. (I will try that again.) When I sent a message to the email address that Patch provided, it was ignored. I don't want them to try and charge me once the free trial period is up, and I consider this my third attempt to detach myself from this program. Patch? Can you help me with this?
Marga Lacabe March 29, 2013 at 05:13 pm
I'm looking forward to trying this. Though my heart does belong to E&J's.

My wife and I have eaten at the Berkeley Looney's on many occasions and enjoyed it a great deal.Read More Excellent sides. Adequate Beer selection. Prompt service and excellent smoke ring with interesting sauces on the side. Meat quality varied a lot, with a definite non-Texas preference I thought in the meat selection and a strong preference for the vinegar-Carolina mode of barbecue. I look forward to eating here. Brisket was not strong and there was an inadequate emphasis on burnt ends. The pulled pork was incredible and the beef ribs, while not my favorite were excellent. The actual hot hot hot sauce was as advertized and slightly beyond the bearable Scoville scale which was good and it was. Looking forward to when this will happen.
