"For thousands of older adults around Alameda County, it can be a struggle just to leave the house, let alone shop or spend time with friends and family. They often suffer from isolation and depression or even a fear of going out by themselves.
But there is hope. The Friendly Visitors Program sponsored by Bay Area Community Services (BACS) recruits and trains volunteers to visit those in need, providing conversation, companionship and a real connection to the outside world. For just an hour or two per week, our volunteers are improving the lives of some of the most vulnerable members of our community.
