Pet Adoptathon at Bayfair Center This Weekend

Maddie's Fund is holding an adoptathon at 70 locations in Alameda and Contra Costa counties on Saturday and Sunday.

Families will have a chance to adopt a dog or cat from a wide range of animals at a pet adoptathon this weekend.

The San Leandro event will be held at the in from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Only cats will be available at this location.

The adoptathon is sponsored by Maddie's Fund,a non-profit organization founded by Workday and PeopleSoft founder David Duffield and his wife, Cheryl. Its mission is to make pet adoption easy to avoid the unnecessary euthanization of animals.

The adoptathon will be held at 70 locations in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. You can look up all the locations on this map.

Last year, 2,000 pets found homes with new owners. Maddie's Fund officials hope to surpass that mark this year.

The organization also donates between $500 to $1,500, depending on the age and medical condition of an animal, to the local shelters for each of their pets that is adopted.

Last year, the fund gave out $1 million to shelters. The organization has set aside $2 million for this year's event.

More than 40 shelters from Alameda and Contra Costa counties are participating this year.

And you think that plunking down a very low income housing project in the middle of cheap housing inRead More San Leandro is more like Castro Valley? or more like West/East Oakland. It's more like the latter. Can't wait for the drive-by shootings and muggings to ratchet up when we thrown away $9M in tax dollars on building a new downtown SL BART ghetto.

It is unfortunate the Bridge has been unable to stop all crime in Oakland. Sadly, that lesson willRead More probably apply to San Leandro too.

Leah, do you have the authorization from Disney for the use of the copyrighted Dumbo character youRead More use for your blog? I thought that the policy of Patch was to deny access to non-authorized materials such as this.
