Pet Adoptathon at Bayfair Center This Weekend

Maddie's Fund is holding an adoptathon at 70 locations in Alameda and Contra Costa counties on Saturday and Sunday.

Families will have a chance to adopt a dog or cat from a wide range of animals at a pet adoptathon this weekend.

The San Leandro event will be held at the in from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Only cats will be available at this location. 

The adoptathon is sponsored by Maddie's Fund,a non-profit organization founded by Workday and PeopleSoft founder David Duffield and his wife, Cheryl. Its mission is to make pet adoption easy to avoid the unnecessary euthanization of animals.

The adoptathon will be held at 70 locations in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. You can look up all the locations on this map.

Last year, 2,000 pets found homes with new owners. Maddie's Fund officials hope to surpass that mark this year.

The organization also donates between $500 to $1,500, depending on the age and medical condition of an animal, to the local shelters for each of their pets that is adopted.

Last year, the fund gave out $1 million to shelters. The organization has set aside $2 million for this year's event.

More than 40 shelters from Alameda and Contra Costa counties are participating this year.
