All Saints Food Pantry Needs Volunteers, Cash

Next event, Saturday August 4. Your gift of time will be richly rewarded. Your cash donation will be leveraged 8-1. And if you need help, that's what it's all about.

Like to eat? Think everyone should be able to? We do too.

At a typical Food Pantry at the Neighborhood Center at All Saints Episcopal Church, 120 guests pick up free groceries for 360 family members.

We hold them the first Saturday of every month.

Here's how to help others.

Funding is drying up, so we need your help. We need canned or dry goods, which can be brought to All Saints Episcopal Church, 911 Dowling Blvd on that first Saturday, between 10:00am and 12:00pm.

Cash is even better.

We get our food for distribution from the Alameda County Community Food Bank, where every dollar is worth about $8 of retail value.

Contributions can be made in person on those Saturday mornings or mailed to the church with a denotation of “Food Pantry” (All Saints Episcopal Church, 911 Dowling Boulevard, San Leandro, CA 94577.)

As for the fun, when is the last time you were thanked 120 times in an hour? There is a tremendous spirit that permeates the pantry.

Check it out for yourself.

  • 11:00 volunteers report for set up;
  • 11:30 the hospitality room opens to guests;
  • 12:00 lunch is served to volunteers;
  • 1:00-2:00 is food distribution;
  • 2:00-2:30 is clean up.

How to get help.

If you need food, you can come any time between 11:30 and 1:00 to pick up a number, and then get your food at 1:00. The only criteria is to be a resident of Alameda County.
