At the the majority of the Council voted to create an ad hoc committee to examine the future of San Leandro Hospital. Vice Mayor Gregory, Council member Reed and myself will serve on the committee.

We also reviewed and offered input on plans for CalTrans expansion of the HOV lanes on I-880 which will include the reconstruction of the Marina and Davis Street bridges.

On the proposed change in the zoning code to prohibit recreational and entertainment uses of properties zoned in our industrial core that are not permitted for assembly uses, the Council did not adopt staff's proposal. Instead, the matter was sent to the City Council Rules Committee for further analysis and review.

I serve on the Rules Committee along with Council members Prola and Reed. We will take into account feedback and comments from our Planning and Zoning Commission members as well as the community on the proposal. I expect that the proposal will be substantially altered by the Rules Committee and the return to the full Council for further review.

On Saturday, February 25, 2012, the .  There is when the Council takes its first in-depth look at our budget for the next fiscal year and set goals for the coming year.  I will discuss the retreat in a future blog entry.

On Saturday, I also attended and spoke at the opening reception for the inspiring exhibit of  in Topaz, Utah, during World War II.  The exhibit is at the San Leandro Art and History museum.

Our museum, which had been closed due to budget cuts, will be open weekends until March 31, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

How to stay connected

Due to budget cuts the City does not have a staff person assigned to communications and public outreach. However, any member of the public can get information from the City - often as soon as I and the Council receive it. All you have to do is to sign up for the City's e-notify system. You check what types documents you would like to receive by email - such as press releases and council meeting agendas.
