San Leandro High Teammates: Why We Play Badminton

San Leandro High badminton players Vicky Huang and Tammy Htoy won their league title and made it to the quarterfinals of this year's North Coast Section girls doubles competition. They share their thoughts here.

Patch has invited high school athletes across the East Bay to write columns and blogs about why they play sports as the spring season ends. Here are some thoughts from San Leandro High badminton players Vicky Huang and Tammy Htoy, who won their league title and made it to the quarterfinals of this year's North Coast Section girls doubles competition.

By Vicky Huang

I started playing badminton last year because I wanted to stay physically active and play a sport I enjoyed.

I didn’t realize I would gain so much more than that. I met great friends from not only my team but also teams from other schools and had coaches that truly cared for me.

Being part of the team was really a great experience, especially this year with my partner Tammy Htoy whom I won first place in WACC and went to NCS with.

I am truly proud to be part of this sport! Although sad to see this season end, I’m even more excited for next year’s season to begin!

My name is Tammy Htoy and I’m currently in 11th grade. I’ve been on the SLHS badminton team since I was a freshmen.

I play badminton because it is a great workout sport and I want to challenge myself since badminton is not an easy sport.

I feel more refreshed than ever after playing a few games of badminton. I love playing badminton because it is a very fun sport and you get to meet new people. Badminton is like my life!
