Boxer From San Leandro Wins World Title

Nonito Donaire, a San Lorenzo High grad, beats Mexico fighter before crowd of more than 4,000 in Las Vegas, according to news reports.

A bantamweight boxer from the Philippines whose family still lives in San Leandro is the WBC/WBO bantamweight title holder.

Nonito Donaire Jr., listed among the top five fighters in the world, crushed Fernando Montiel of Mexico in the bout at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas Saturday night.

The 28-year-old is a graduate of San Lorenzo High School.
