Bike Ride December 22 Departs From San Leandro BART

Bay Area Meet-Up bicycling group plans its rides around public transit options

The Bay Area Easy Riders Bicycle Touring Group, a Meet-Up Group, is scheduled to ride from the San Leandro BART station to the Hayward shoreline and its Wildlife Interpretive Center on December 22. The group has over 300 members.

This approximately 25 mile-ride will last from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost of the ride is $5 per person. Ride spots are limited and filling up fast. If you want to participate in the ride or future rides planned by the group you must join the group on-line first, which you can do here.

The group requires helmets and follows specific rider rules. It is only for those age 16 and older. Minors must complete special training and be accompanied on the ride by a parent. The Bay Area Easy Riders Bicycle Touring Group emphasizes using public transit to get to and from its bike rides.

You can see many photos from past rides, some of which were in or around San Leandro, here.

Check out Cherry City Cyclists' website. http://cherrycitycyclists.org/ As to the one in the article, there could be a variety of reasons why they are charging a small fee. They have a website to maintain and it looks like they do many rides and are well organized. I guess you could ask the same thing about why people pay $14 a week to get weighed in at a Weight Loss center when they have a scale at home. Riding with a group like that sounds fun to me.

I'm going for a bike ride on the same route on Sunday 12/23. I welcome anybody that would like to join me on the ride with me for small fee of $5.00.

San Leandro Patch has the most rambunctious readers. Personally, I'm holding out for the outfit that will pay me $5 NOT to ride that day. I was not going to ride anyway but I would like to profit from my lethargy -- unless anyone objects.

Haha, me too, I'm only charging $4.00 though. Seriously, I can't believe they can charge somebody for this. My husband "organizes" basketball games at the local park, can't wait to tell him that he can start charging people to play at the Public park!

Tom, you're too funny. Actually their reviews are positive if you read them. It looks like there is some safety education and some coaching for newbie riders going on. It is more than just some people going on a bike ride, I think. http://www.meetup.com/Bay-Area-Easy-Riders-Bicycle-Touring-Group/about/comments/?op=all
