Whiz Kids of the Week: Scientists of the Future

These two students will be showing off their brain power at the Bay Area Regional Science Fair in March.

This week's Whiz Kids may someday be among the nation's top researchers in medicine and genetics. 

  • Name(s): Alexander Garcia and Ashleen Calhan
  • Grade/School: 7th grade,
  • Accomplishment: Won 1st and 2nd place, respectively, in their categories at the Diocese of Oakland Science Fair. Both will be competing at the Bay Area Regional Science Fair March 29-31.
  • Whiz Kids' Key to Awesomeness: Honing in on the day's hot science research topics. Garcia studied the effects of spicy food on blood pressure. Calhan studied the effects of behavioral sciences and genetics on facial expressions.
