SLUSD Assistant Superintendent Receives Administrator of the Year Award

Song Chin-Bendib, assistant superintendent of business services at San Leandro Unified School District, has been named 2013 Business Services Administrator of the Year by the Association of California School Administrators.

Working behind-the-scenes, Chin-Bendib demonstrates daily that student learning and closing the achievement gap is her core mission. With every idea and every decision she makes, she works to ensure every penny spent contributes to student success.

Chin-Bendib has the extraordinary ability to juggle the demands of five separate programs. She is a financial expert and a creative problem solver, a key trait of any leader in these fiscally challenging times.

She works collaboratively with each department, finding innovative ways to maximize efficiency and minimize expense. She is also able to explain the most complicated budget situation in a manner that makes it clearly understood by all.

School sites within the San Leandro district are safe and clean, thanks to Chin-Bendib’s skill in managing facilities funds. In fact, she managed more than $200 million in bond funds to build new facilities, modernize existing facilities, and build new and exciting fields and play structures at all schools.

With a high-profile position, Chin-Bendib works to ensure the community has a voice in school operations and facilities needs. She also uses a lens of racial equity as she makes recommendations in responding to diverse community interests and needs.

As a bilingual leader herself, she knows the importance of creating an inclusive and culturally rich school community.
