San Leandro Education Foundation Annual Meeting

The community is invited to attend the San Leandro Education Foundation (SLED) Annual Meeting on Wednesday, September 21, 2011, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at San Leandro High School’s new Arts Education Center, located at 2200 Bancroft Avenue. As part of the Annual Meeting, SLED will recognize its 2010-2011 volunteers and announce grant funding to Wilson Elementary School and Bancroft and John Muir Middle Schools.

“With help from our community partners, Kaiser Permanente Community Benefit Program in southern Alameda County, OSIsoft Inc., and 1st United Services Credit Union, we are able to provide important programming for our schools and San Leandro youth,” said SLED President Deborah Cox, adding that the elementary school would benefit from a recess activity and student leadership development program, and middle school students would receive a cyber-bullying prevention program.

Also on the agenda will be the President’s Report, with a look at the year in review and objectives for the 2011-2012 School Year. SLED Coordinator Tessa Atkinson-Adams will give the AmeriCorps*VISTA Report; and the community will be invited to speak in an open forum.

“SLED is a relatively new foundation,” said San Leandro Superintendent Cindy M. Cathey, “but they have made a tremendous difference in our schools. The Board is comprised of dedicated, passionate individuals who bring a great deal of talent and experience to the table. We are grateful to them, and moved by their commitment to our students, schools, and public education.”
