Oakland's Chinatown Tour & Luncheon organized by the San Leandro Library

The San Leandro Library is proud to announce an excursion of Oakland’s Chinatown as part of The Big Read program. Join William Wong, author of Oakland’s Chinatown, as he gives us a tour of Chinatown and shares with us historical insights. Attendees will meet on Saturday, March 19 at 10:30 am in Oakland Chinatown and later on will enjoy lunch at a Chinatown restaurant. This program will end at 2:00 pm. Tickets, which are $20 per person and includes the tour and lunch, can be purchased at the San Leandro Main Library, located at 300 Estudillo Avenue. Space is very limited, so please sign up soon!

 

William Wong, the son of immigrants from China, was born and grew up in Oakland's Chinatown. He went on to a distinguished career in journalism. In addition to being an author and a journalist, Mr. Wong is also an oral historian.  His oral history project focuses on Chinatown elders.

The Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with the Institute of Museum and Library Services and Arts Midwest. The Big Read provides people the opportunity to read and discuss a single book within their community. The San Leandro Public Library has selected   the critically acclaimed novel The Joy Luck Club by California author Amy Tan.
