Bancroft Student Wins Mountain Bike

Sixth grader Isaac Silva won a drawing as part of San Leandro's Safe Routes to School Program.

A sixth grade student at Bancroft Middle School won a new 24-inch mountain bike this week.

Isaac Silva won the bike for participating in a February 11 event during which students walked or biked to school, and then took safety classes. Participants were given “Bancroft Bronco Tickets” for a drawing held on February 15.

The drawing and workshops are part of the City of San Leandro’s Safe Routes to School Program, which is part of a nationwide initiative to make bicycling and walking to school a safer, more appealing and healthier alternative for students in kindergarten through eighth grade.

This Program is made possible through a federally-funded Safe Routes to School grant of $410,000, and is administered by the City of San Leandro Engineering and Transportation Department.
