The United States Supreme Court today finished hearing oral arguments on two cases that could redefine the boundaries of marriage.

Their ruling could come in June.

Yesterday justices heard pro and con in a case in which two Berkeley women are challenging California's Proposition 8 ban on same-sex marriages.

Today justices consider a challenge the Defense of Marriage Act, a federal law that defines marriage as the union between one man and one woman.

The rainbow flag, a symbol of the movement for gay, lesbian and transgender rights, is flying over San Leandro City Hall as a result of a unanimous vote by members of the City Council to take a stand on these cases.
