Two Robberies Prompt San Leandro Police Alert

Two armed men staged one holdup, and a possibly armed man staged another within hours of each other.

 

Two seemingly unrelated robberies that occured within a few hours of each other prompted San Leandro police to issue an alert Monday morning.

The first incident occurred at about 10:30 pm Sunday on Estudillo Avenue, near San Jose Street, when a male suspect walked up to a woman and demanded money.

Police say the suspect was holding his waistband and the victim feared he may have had a weapon. She handed over some valuables and the man fled. 

Police describe the suspect as a short African-American male with a thin build wearing a dark colored t-shirt and blue jeans. He is said to have fled down Estudillo Avenue in a dark vehicle.

The second robbery occurred at about 1 am Sunday on Hays Street near Castro Street, when two suspects approached a man who was walking in the area and demanded his belongings.

Police say these suspects were armed with handguns and the victim, fearing for his safety, cooperated. 

The two armed suspects were described as young Hispanic males, wearing black hooded sweatshirts and dark pants.

Police are investigating. Meanwhile they advise citizens to be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity.
