Starosciak Closes 2016 Campaign Committee

She has disbanded her campaign committee but that's not necessarily the end of the story.

City Councilwoman Joyce Starosciak, who ran third in the last mayor's race and can't run for re-election to the council, has disbanded a committee that could have raised money for a city council bid in 2016, when she would again become eligible under the term limit law.

But campaign treasurer Christine Wise said the move says nothing about Starosciak's plans and was a way to avoid a lot of paperwork for very little money.

There was $429 in the account that is now closed. It was mostly spent on transactions under $100 that do not have to be reported. The exception was $168 expenditure to Firelight Glass to pay for momentos for supporters, Wise said.

Starosciak ended her 2010 mayoral campaign in debt and raised about $6,700 to retire that, according to previous campaign statements reported in San Leandro Bytes. She made some contributions to other candidates and causes in 2011 to whittle her account down to the $429 that is now spent.

Starosciak could not be reached Thursday afternoon to discuss her plans.
