An artist from the Museum of Children’s Art (MOCHA) will lead students in kindergarten through fifth grade in a two-part art workshop based on Faith Ringgold’s book Tar Beach at the San Leandro Main Library beginning February 19 from 3:30 to 5 p.m.  Students will create a story quilt out of paper.

Tar Beach has been described as, "a seamless weaving of fiction, autobiography, and African-American history and literature." It was a Caldecott Honor winner in 1992 and was a New York Times Best Illustrated Book.  You can see a You Tube trailer for the book here.

Space is limited for this free event and registration is required. Registration will open on December 17.

This is a Big Read program, funded by the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.
