Sewer Laterals, City Budget, Fiber Optic Loop and More at Tonight's City Council Meeting

Here are a few of the highlights to be discussed at tonight's City Council meeting. (Hint: click on the links below and check the stories at right under "In This Article" to read up on the issues.)

  • City Council will hold a public discussion on the for fiscal year 2012, which starts July 1. It will then vote on whether or not to adopt the budget.
  • The Council will vote on adopting two agreements that would move forward a proposal to install an 11-mile around the city’s industrial zone. One agreement would grant exclusive negotiating rights to San Leandro-based OSIsoft for developing the loop; another would hire the broadband consulting firm Tellus Venture Associates, based in Marina, to advise on the project. The contract with Tellus is not to exceed $45,000, and the funds would come from the West San Leandro/MacArthur Boulevard Redevelopment Project Area fund.
  • City Council will vote on whether to adopt a resolution supporting a plan for . You can read the proposed resolution here.
  • Council will also vote on a resolution opposing any state or federal legislation that would eliminate the rights of labor groups or local governments to bargain collectively. 
  • Council will vote on a resolution approving plans and calling for bids for improving the Marina Park . The total cost of the project, which includes replacing the exercise equipment and reconstructing the asphalt pathways, is $921,000. Funds for the project will come from the East Bay Regional Park District’s Measure WW bond proceeds.
  • A presentation will be made on the city’s controversial policy that makes residents responsible for in the case that a main line needs to be relocated.
  • City staff will also present an update on the design for the San Leandro BART station redevelopment project.
  • In closed session, council will discuss the . Current City Manager Stephen Hollister is retiring at the end of the month.
