San Leandro Mayor Joins "Freedom To Marry" Rally

Stephen Cassidy stands with other mayors who are asking for communities to embrace the rights of gay and lesbian couples to marry

San Leandro Mayor Stephen Cassidy stood in Washington, D.C., with other mayors who want communities and states to approve same-sex marriages.

About 70 mayors joined in the effort. Most were Democrats, but they were joined by Republican Jerry Sanders, the mayor of San Diego.

"As mayor of San Leandro, I am proud to join with mayors across the nation in the launch of a bipartisan coalition supporting marriage for LGBT couples and ending marriage discrimination at all levels of government," said Cassidy. "Marriage is a fundamental human right that all loving couples should have the right to enter into."
