Labeled "the new voice of Portuguese world music" by Mundo Portugues magazine, Ramana Vieira pulls traditional Portuguese  fado music into the 21st century with her powerful vocals and unique interpretations. Dating from 19th Century Portugal, fado is a blend of African rhythms and traditional Portuguese seafaring songs that are infused with melodious Brazilian and Arabic influences.

Harmonizing unconventional instrumentals with fado's haunting melodies and melancholy stories of heartache and disappointment, Ramana beautifully modernizes these old-world ballads while maintaining the integrity of this time-honored tradition. Joined by talented musicians, Ramana will sing songs both traditional and original.

Tickets are $15 advance and $17 at the door and will go on sale starting at 12 noon on May 10. It is recommended you buy tickets early, as there is limited seating.  To purchase tickets, please visit the San Leandro Library’s Information Desk.  (Please, no children under 10 years of age.)
