New Alameda County Website Shines Light on Budget

 By Alex Gronke/Patch

Alameda County added 101 new full-time positions to its workforce at a cost of $93 million to the general fund in the 2013-14 budget year. The county now boasts 9,196 full-time positions.

That information is available on a new government website aimed at making the county’s $2.6 billion budget easier to understand by ordinary citizens.

“The County’s annual budget is the window to the investments that Alameda County, based on the decisions of our elected Board of Supervisors, makes in the community on behalf of our residents,’’ County Administrator Susan Muranishi said in a press release. “This project is part of our long-term effort to facilitate deeper public understanding of our priorities as a County and to encourage more public participation in the budget process.’’

Last year, the county’s web efforts won an award from the Center for Digital Government for the way the county presents information “cleanly and intuitively within a main website, mobile website and mobile apps.”
