Mourning San Leandro Resident, Castro Valley Fire Fighter Tom Godbier

Memorial services Friday and Saturday for this well-known civil servant and community volunteer.

 

San Leandro—It is with great sadness that the members of the Alameda County Fire Department (ACFD) mourn the loss of retired firefighter, Thomas “Tom” Godbier.

Tom passed away from a battle with cancer on the evening of Wednesday, February 22nd at his home in San Leandro.

Tom was also a devoted part-time ACFD employee who managed the Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) Repair Program since 1997 at Fire Station #6 in Castro Valley.

A dedicated member of the Castro Valley Fire Department (CVFD) and the ACFD for 45 years, Tom was hired in the CVFD on July 1, 1967 and promoted to the position of Engineer in 1971. Tom retired from the ACFD on December 30, 1996, and began working on the SCBA Repair Program in January of 1997.

During his career as a firefighter, Tom was instrumental in marking rural water tanks and addresses in the Castro Valley community.

A resident of San Leandro since 1948, Tom was a member of the Church of the Assumption along with his wife Linda. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, boating and hunting. Tom also volunteered at the Davis Street Family Resource Center for over 15 years.

March 2nd 12PM to 5PM Visitation at the Santos-Robinson Mortuary, 160 Estudillo Avenue, San Leandro, CA 94577

March 2nd at 7PM Vigil at Church of the Assumption. 1100 Fulton Avenue, San Leandro, CA 94577

March 3rd at 3PM Memorial service at Neighborhood Church, 20600 John Drive, Castro Valley, CA 94546 (Uniformed personnel please arrive by 2:30PM)
