From the City of San Leandro
The City of San Leandro will be sponsoring an oratorical festival as part of its annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration to be held January 21 at 10 a.m. at the Marina Community Center located at 15301 Wicks Boulevard. Those wishing to participate can enter now.
Student contestants will perform an original or well-known essay, speech or poem in celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King's message of peace, tolerance and social justice. Entry forms are available for San Leandro residents ages 6 through 17 who wish to compete. You can go here to find out more information and obtain an entry form.
Oratorical Festival contestants will be competing in distinct age categories. Amazon gift card prizes will be awarded to first and second place winners in each age category, courtesy of the San Leandro Optimist Club.
At the January 21 event, open to the public, there will also be entertainment, crafts for children and light refreshments.
