Mary Hayashi To Run For Nadia Lockyer Seat

Assemblywoman who pleaded no contest to shoplifting charges wants to replace the County Supervisor who resigned in a messy scandal.

has come true: Assemblywoman Mary Hayashi hopes to shrug off her involvement in a shoplifting epispode and run for the Alameda County Board of Supervisor's seat vacated by Nadia Lockyer, who .

Reports in the Oakland Tribune and San Francisco Chronicle say Hayashi, 45, does not think her own scandal bars her from seeking elective office when term limits force her out of her Assembly seat. Hayashi pleaded no contest to shoplifting $2,450 worth of clothes from the Neiman Marcus in San Francisco's Union Square.

Hayashi told Tribune political reporter Josh Richman "the world doesn't end when you make a personal mistake."

The Chronicle reported that Hayashi, a Hayward Democrat, has more than $580,000 in campaign funds and seems to have support from campaign donors.

What do you think of Hayashi's run?

Michael Austin July 30, 2012 at 12:42 AM
Mary Hayashi was convicted because of the evidence against her, period. Because of the evidence against her, she entered a plea of guilty as charged to a negotiated plea of misdemeanor theft. Craig Williams, by way of your comment posted at 3:59 pm Sunday I have determined that you are an idiot.
Dan Arnhem July 30, 2012 at 04:32 AM
Craig, Here is the Oakland Tribune/ Hayward Daily Review article headline from last Sunday. "Exclusive: Mary Hayashi discusses shoplifting conviction, run for Board of Supervisors" I guess Josh Richmond and all of us are just being too harsh on Mary by calling it a conviction, when she really took a plea deal to avoid trial and the felony charge. I don't know Craig, you are getting a little weird, seeming more than ready to nit-pick anything negative about Mary's crime. Heck, she could mug a senior and of course that wouldn't be as bad as the "bogus war" and "the thousands of deaths" you use, but then I guess almost anything would be classlified as a lesser crime by your benchmark. Love yet another of your admonitions... "Grow up and put things in perspective".. I guess we can put your "grow up" right next to your prior "get a life" advice. You failed to answer the point about Mary continuing lie to the residents of her district. She continues to say her crime was really "unintentional" and a "absentminded error". You OK with that lie? Or don't you know the facts of the case?
Craig Williams July 30, 2012 at 05:00 AM
Fran the problem isn't Hayashi, it's the candidate centered system where she can run again. If the Democrats had balls and any real power they would have thanked her for her past services and made sure she didn't run again. But beyond where the real corrpution lies, the crime is a first offense , she claims she was distracted and she wasn't convicted. If it happened again maybe I would have second thoughts. Michael you pussy, call me an idiot to my face in person you clown . What part of $3 trillion spent against 300 rag tag Al Queda do you want to defend ? That we fear an enemy at $10 billion a soilder? Or the hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. And you're pissing and moaning about a shoplifting first time incedent.Grow up and smell the coffee.
Craig Williams July 30, 2012 at 05:05 AM
Dan ,I just don't like a bunch of red necks bullying her.
Fred Eiger July 30, 2012 at 05:09 AM
I think you're the one who needs to grow up. Climate Change? Now that's a bogus issue if there ever were a bogus issue.
Fred Eiger July 30, 2012 at 05:10 AM
Michael Austin, your assessment of Craig Williams is right on target.
Fred Eiger July 30, 2012 at 05:16 AM
That's very chivalrous of you, to come to the aid of sensitive woman. sic
Fred Eiger July 30, 2012 at 05:18 AM
300 rag tag Al Queda???? The same fanatics who bomb innocent people? You have no idea how utterly wrong you sound.
Craig Williams July 30, 2012 at 07:09 AM
Fred you wet your pants over Al-Qaeda, yes $3 trillion and counting and think Climate Change and the science behind it is a scam? Pathetic!!We're doomed as a society .
Dan Arnhem July 30, 2012 at 07:46 AM
Craig, you say, "she claims she was distracted and she wasn't convicted. If it happened again maybe I would have second thoughts." So you buy her claim she was distracted, or as she put it "this absentminded error" and "I unintentionally walked out of the store".. Craig, why can't you just flat out say you fully believe what Mary has said? You either believe her story entirely or you are willing to overlook it? So which is it? You fully believe her version or you are willing to accept her continuing lie. I don't see the middle ground. Which of the two do you choose? I suppose we can leave out her prior excuse, the brain tumor. As she has recently changed her story on that prior excuse. You know, the one where Douglass Rappaport, her attorney, said on January 6th, about the brain tumor "there is no other reason she would have taken the merchandise". Of course Mary was right there by him, in fact gave him a big hug as they walked off. So Craig, you no longer believe Mary's prior story, but now you fully accept her current explanation for her crime?

Because without Afghanistan and Iraq, the Feds would have disbanded the military. Again, your number is either 1) plucked from thin air or 2) assumes that nearly 100% of military spending is and has been spent on Afghanistan/Iraq.
Mike July 30, 2012 at 02:14 PM
Or Craig could have read this Reuters story http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/06/29/us-usa-war-idUSTRE75S25320110629 3.7 trillion as of a year ago
Fran July 30, 2012 at 02:18 PM
When it comes to corruption, I don't discriminate. I don't care about the crime of shoplifting per say, but the fact she received special treatment because of her status. How many times were we subjected to the video of Winona Ryder shoplifting at NM? How many times did we see the video of Mary H?
Craig Williams July 30, 2012 at 02:27 PM
David the battle cry was by George W Bush "we need to take it to the enemy." The cost? Accord to initial estimates by his National Ecconomic Council, $200 billion, Rumsfeld thought those figures were "baloney" and argued with Wolfowitz that the figures were in the $50-$60 billion range. As I have said before to you David the $3 trillion number is from Joe Stiglitz the Nobel Prize ecconomist and Linda Bilmes' The Three Trillion Dollar War. Buy a copy at Amazon. The history of Al-Qaeda from London School of Ecconomics' Fawaz Gerges The Rise and Fall of Al-Qaeda. In the Washington Post's series on Top Secret America , government officials claim they can't even estimate what the cost are for the war on terror "It's anybody's guess." I'm sure that shouldn't bother a penny pinching , tax revolter like you.The cost of $3 trillion is low according to Gerges but at $3 trillion divided by 300 rag tag , bellow average Al Qaeda recruits that's $10 billion a head. California had a million solar roofs project that Honeywell and other corporations have been able to "game .' It was an ambitious project at $3.2 billion a third of the cost of one mickey mouse Al-Qaeda recruit. And did you hear any of the protesters in the Arab Spring applauding Al Qaeda,"no" most people in the Middle East thhink they're chumps who provoked the American military and achieved nothing.Total assholes according to most people in that region of the world.
David July 30, 2012 at 02:43 PM
Uh, no. The supposed $3.7T number is not what US taxpayers actually spent.
David July 30, 2012 at 02:53 PM
Craig, as pointed out multiple times. Current defense spending=~$680B, 1/5 of the Federal budget, compared to the 61% of total is spent on welfare. In order to arrive at your conclusion, you have to believe that the vast majority of DOD spending in the past decade was on Iraq and Afghanistan. You have to believe that our military would magically be less than 1/2 its size without those wars. You believe that? Really?

Ken Martin July 30, 2012 at 03:47 PM
Let's get back to the subject, people. It is the scumbag Mary Hayashi, not the war in Afghanistan. Also, enough name calling, even if it is correct.
Dan Arnhem July 30, 2012 at 05:05 PM
Exactly, the issue is Hayashi's crime, continuing lies about it, and rewarding her with a new office and a $55,000 raise. Craig wants to swing the conversation to the entire world, wars and deaths. Avoiding the fact that a sitting legislator, got into her car in Hayward, drove 35 miles to San Francisco, walked into a store and with planning and intention, stole $2,450 worth of clothing. That act had ZERO to do with the war in Afghanistan and everything to do with the character of Mary Hayashi. Even worse, she continues to lie to the very citizens she claims to represent. Let me say that again. Today, Monday July 30th, Mary Hayashi continues to lie to her constituents and yet expects them to vote for her to gain a new office and a $55,000 boost in salary. Apparently Craig either has bought her current lies, or he thinks Hayashi's current and active lies are OK by his standards. Every time he is pinned down, he switches the discussion to Afghanistan or military spending. Both issues which the board of supervisors have near zero influence upon.
Craig Williams July 30, 2012 at 05:24 PM
Dan this crap is so petty. She has already paid dearly and will be shamed for the rest of her life , by the incident. This has cost her a hundred times more than the over priced Neiman Marcus items. You are heartless sadistic witch hunter and I wish the same tragedy on you and your family if you have one.
Dan Arnhem July 30, 2012 at 06:13 PM
"You are heartless sadistic witch hunter and I wish the same tragedy on you and your family if you have one." Goodness, you are one strange puppy. I'll try to keep my family safe and I hope you do the same for your loved ones. As to Mary Hayashi, I would also wish that her life goes well, and if she had chosen to finish her term as a Assembly-Member and taken a few years off to re-examine her values and personal problems, then you wouldn't be hearing me say anything about her this summer. But Mary Hayashi has chosen to run for a entirely new office, while still on 30 months probation, after having been arrested for felony shoplifting only 9 months ago. Sorry, but Mary, her crime, her probation, and her continuing distortion of her guilt and criminal intent are "Item #1 in her election campaign". They speak to her fitness for office. To be a leader in our society. That she continues to this very day, to distort her criminal intent in her actions last October is a very real CURRENT issue. It is NOT witch hunting. If she insists on lying to this very day, then surely she isn't morally fit for office. You continue to avoid this telling issue, that she continues to lie to the voters about her intentions that day last October when she was arrested and charged with a felony. She has yet to come clean. She continues with the ruse that it was all just a "absentminded error" and totally "unintentional".
Craig Williams July 30, 2012 at 07:00 PM
Dan , maybe you have issues with Asian women, or maybe a hidden agenda, maybe you work for one of the other candidates or maybe you're just such a moral crusader , you are just bursting to save the world. You should maybe focus on the military or Wall Street scams. I've mentioned the mlitary scam, Wall Street investment banks and rating agencies cost us trillion in lost productions and trillions more in lost home values. They have "exeutive immunity." Over a thousand executives were indited during the Savings and Loan scandal less than a handful in the 2008 scandal! How much has your home value dropped ? Is that close to home? I do fault Hayashi for not raising the California commercial property tax scam. We lose $8 to $10 billion a year because commercial property tax payers don't want to pay no stinken taxes and "gaming" the system. I don't know where you live but there are probably dozens of companies between where Hayashi and you live who make her stupid behavior look like childs play. At the expense of every kid in California. Get on your moral high horse and go to www.caltaxreform.org and bring your sincere self righteous Patch comrades with you. Bring Hayashi along with you and the other silent politicians as well. And throw in Josh Richman who frequently reports on the state budget crisis but is oblivious to where the the funds would logically come from an what an honest commercial property tax system would mean.
Dan Arnhem July 30, 2012 at 07:50 PM
Object to Mary's crime, viola, you're anti-Asian woman Got to love it Craig. I suppose it was only a matter of time before you ran that one up the flagpole. The -- "maybe you have issues with Asian women"--. Oh please Craig, why do you offer mere euphemistic phrases? Why not just suggest that anyone who objects to Mary's felony shoplifting is only doing so because of their racism against Asians. There Craig... That fits your agenda. I mean why else would a citizen question electing a candidate who is still on 3 years probation, after their felony arrest and plea bargain. Obviously if her predecessor, Johan Klehs, had been arrested for felony shoplifting, we'd have said "no problem, Johan, why don't you run for the Board of Supervisors". Yes Craig, we'd have no problem with a white male doing the same crime, then immediately running for a new office. You nailed it Craig. Uncovered the hidden reasons why I oppose Mary Hayashi. Racism and sexism.

When Craig loses an argument, he goes from blaming the entire "system" to calling the person on the other side "racist," "sexist," "evil," and anything else that comes to his mind, along with throwing in vague, violent threats. But never mind him, he knows where I am every morning, and has yet to show his face.

"She has already paid dearly and will be shamed for the rest of her life" What consequences? She's running for a higher paying job right now!!!! Shame??? How can she be shamed if she doesn't admit to the crime? A brain tumor and now it's I got lost text messaging and answering phone calls. I have an issue with 1 ASIAN WOMAN.......Mary Hayashi
kayster August 06, 2012 at 04:49 AM
It's not cost her dearly enough, Craig Williams, if the scumbag Hayashi is considering another run a public office. The woman needs to GO AWAY. Craw into a deep, dark hole and never show her face in a public election again. Only then will she have paid a decent price. What a hag.
Mike LeVien August 06, 2012 at 07:19 PM
By this time, thought she would be laughed out of running. Guess not. Can't wait to see her MUG SHOT all over on her opponent's campaign materials. The shoplifting queen keeps trying.
Ken Martin February 06, 2013 at 09:39 PM
Hayashi hasn't got brains enough or enough class to just give it up. She wants to continue to be another hog feeding at the publicly filled trough along with the other five monkeys on the board of Supervisors. But the solution is simple. Just don't vote for her. I'm sure she'll have some kind of opponent. Whether that person will be better or worse than Hayashi is anybody's guess. Just don't vote for Hayashi.
