Help Create A Lighted Walkway Along San Leandro Creek

Friends of San Leandro Creek are working with city officials on a plan to make the stream more accessible to kids, commuters and citizens. Learn more.

Friends of San Leandro Creek (FSLC) and the City of San Leandro are currently seeking funding for a “Creek Walk”.

This would be a path along the creek from the San Leandro BART station to Root Park on East 14th Street, south of the police station.

The Creek Walk would serve as a green corridor for families, commuters and nature lovers.

Having a well clean, well-lit and inviting path through this section of town would help community members access this part of San Leandro Creek.

FSLC hopes to combine this effort with creek restorations and clean ups, making the creek more inviting to citizens.-

Getting grants for the Creek Walk would allow the City to work with the community, FSLC and landowners along the creek (the City currently owns approximately half the land) on design and implementation.

The effort would also explore partnerships and other funding and develop a sustainable maintenance and operating plan.

“I am pleased the San Leandro city council recently prioritized a couple of projects to revitalize sites on the San Leandro Creek," said Vice Mayor Michael Gregory. "We are thrilled to see local and regional interest growing and look forward to engaging the community and many stakeholders in the process.”

(This plan will be among the topics addressed at a stream restoration workshop at the San Leandro Main Library. Learn more about that here.)
