Heist: Who Stole the American Dream

Evening screenings of the film at the nearby Grand Lake Theater in Oakland on April 19

 

"Heist: Who Stole the American Dream?" will be shown April 19 at 7 and 9:30 p.m. in Oakland's Grand Lake Theater at 3200 Grand Avenue. The event is being sponsored by the film's producer and the Ella Baker Center along with other organizations. There will also be a panel discussion following the 7 p.m. showing. 

The documentary explores the genesis of the country's economic crisis and how it continues to impact the middle class. You can read more about the event here and see a trailer for the movie here.

Donald Goldmacher, the film's producer and director will be part of the panel discussion along with Sylvia Allegretto, a University of California Berkeley labor economist and Christine Cordero, representing Occupy the Hood Oakland. Jakada Imani, Ella Baker Center's director will lead the conversation.

According to organizers, in addition to offering a historical context, the film offers practical solutions to solving the economic crisis and includes current film clips from the Occupy Wall Street Movement.

Tickets for the 7 p.m. showing are $15 for general admission and $10 for students and seniors. VIP tickets are also available for $100 and include preferred seating and a signed poster and DVD. Tickets for the 9:30 screening cost $10 for general admission and $7 for students and seniors. You can purchase tickets in advance here.

Funds raised during the evening will go to the Heist Community Engagement Campaign to help raise awareness of the film and more widely spread it to film audiences.
