Free Screening of 'Far From Heaven' at San Leandro History Museum in Honor of LGBT Pride Month

The screening will take place on June 7 at 1 p.m.

Mayor Stephen Cassidy and the San Leandro City Council announced that in honor of LGBT Pride Month in June, the San Leandro History Museum will be screening the Academy award-winning film, Far From Heaven, starring Julianne Moore and Dennis Quaid.

The screening will take place on Saturday June 7th at 1:00pm at the History Museum, located at 320 West Estudillo in downtown San Leandro.

The film was honored with the Coppa Volpi Award for Best Actress (Julianne Moore) and the Individual Contribution Award (given to cinematographer Edward Lachman). It runs 185 minutes. This event is free and open to the public.

The film tells the story of Cathy Whitaker, a 1950s housewife, living in wealthy suburban Connecticut as she sees her seemingly perfect life begin to fall apart. The film deals with complex contemporary issues such as race, gender roles, sexual orientation and class.  Have we made any progress in these areas since Cathy Whitaker's experience, or not? Come see the film and decide for yourself.
