Earth Day Event Spurs San Leandro Creek Study Center

Dozens gathered Saturday to clean up the creek, have a barbecue and discuss plans for a study center at the foot of Cary Drive.

Vice Mayor Michael Gregory, with Friends of San Leandro Creek, talked about plans to build a study center at the foot of Cary Drive. Mayor Stephen Cassidy, Councilman Jim Prola and state Assemblyman Bob Bonta were on hand.

Robin Freeman, who leads the Merritt College Environmental Management and Technology program, was there to lead a bike ride.

Freeman has coordinated the work of Merritt faculty and students who use the creek as a living laboratory – contributing knowledge useful to planning and restoration efforts.
