City Finance Director Tracy Vesely will present some good news regarding the city's finances. As of the middle of this fiscal year (Jan. 1), the city projects it will have an additional $1.4 million more than expected in its General Fund,  thanks largely to a positive adjustment in sales tax revenue coming to the city from the state.

Sales tax revenue this year is expected to be 9.3 percent higher than originally anticipated.

The city's overall revenues, however, are "significantly lower" compared to previous years, according to a staff report from Vesely.

The city still expects to have an operating deficit for this fiscal year, but it is projected to be lower than originally thought by $700,000 thanks largely to the additional sales tax and some expenditure savings.
