Three city council races will be on the ballot in November.

A debate at the Senior Community Center Wednesday night could help sharpen the issues.

The city council candidates will take the stage at 8 pm. They are:

  • In District 2, incumbent Ursula Reed; school president Morgan Mack-Rose; and Bal Theater owner Dan Dillman.
  • In District 4 there is no incumbent: Darlene Daevu, Chris Crow,Benny Lee and Justin Hutchison are all vying to replace Joyce Starosciak.
  • In District 6, incumbent Jim Prola faces school board member Hermy Almonte.

The event actually begins at 6 pm with light refreshments followed by a debate between Rob Bonta of Alameda and Abel Guillen of Oakland, both Democrats but opposing candidates for 18th Assembly District

The event is hosted by the Halcyon-Foothill Neighborhood Association; the Best Manor Home Owners Association; and the Business Association of South San Leandro.

What questions would you ask the candidates?

Try smoking some pain relieving medical marijuana before you go & demand to know which candidates support our right to "safe & legal access" to medical marijuana in San Leandro ? There are only two sides on this issue, the law-abiding patients & elected leaders who support them & those who put personal bias before the will of the people. Enquiring minds want to know where the candidates stand on this unnecessarily controversial issue !

San Leandro families are not ready for your world of compromised values and diminished brain cells that you throw away like confetti. Now go do your best. Be bold, and mighty forces will come to your aid. Goethe said that. It's not too late for you to become a person of substance, Summer Hemphill. I'm glad we spoke.

I am a person of substance, that substance being marijuana ! In California legally regulated storefront medical marijuana dispensaries are the law of the land & the Appellate Court has ruled that cities are "pre-empted" from banning them ! It's everybodies duty & everybodies desire to make sure our elected leaders abide by the law just like everybody else, don't you agree ? The voters have a right to know who will uphold the law & who thinks they can defy it when it suits their antiquated values agenda ! The only compromised values are the integrity & accountability of the cities elected leaders who've blocked "safe & legal access" to medical marijuana here contrary to the law & the will of California voters ! Mighty forces are presently at work & the fruits of their labor will be not only be medical marijuana available in every city in California, but also it's eventual legalization for any adult who wants to indulge. You know like now except that nobody will be arrested & imprisoned for doing so anymore ! From stashes to ashes, from coast to coast,it will be legal & that's no boast !

Well Summer looks like Chris Crow is your candidate! http://www.ebcitizen.com/2012/09/san-leandro-council-candidate-who.html No wonder he wants marijuana dispensaries in town, convenience!

Summer, as far as I know this is the candidate's position on medical marijuana dispensaries: Dist 2: Morgan Mack-Rose and Dan Dillman support them, Ursula Reed opposed them until it was re-election time and wanted to get the Democratic endorsement. Dist 4: Chris Crow supports them. Benny Lee opposes them, except when he talks to Democrats and then he tries to suggest otherwise. I don't think either Justin Hutchinson or Darlene Daevu are on the record on this question. Dist 6: Jim Prola supports them, I'm pretty sure Hermy Almonte does as well.

Ah, the Benny Lee/Tavares team is at it again. Time to make some popcorn! :-)
