Celebrate International Turkey Vulture Day September 1
Who knew a special day was set aside for these street-sweepers of the animal kingdom? Come see them up close at nearby Sulphur Creek Nature Center
International Turkey Vulture Awareness Day is being commemorated September 1 at the Sulphur Creek Nature Center during a free program for all ages.
Come visit the center located just minutes from San Leandro at 1801 D Street, Hayward. Its hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You are invited to see the center's turkey vultures, who live there year-round, and learn about the important role they play in not only our own local eco-system, but around the world.
In addition to special visits with the vultures during the day author Diane Lang will be on hand to introduce her new children’s book "Vulture Verses: Love Poems for the Unloved".

Children will also be able to make a vulture-themed craft to take home with them.

Sulphur Creek Nature Center is a wildlife rehabilitation and education center nestled in the Hayward hills. It is part of the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD). The center, which draws visitors from throughout Alameda County and beyond, offers a wide array of programs for children and adults you can read about here.
