CalTrans To Discuss Pile-Driving, I-880 Road Work

Two meetings Wednesday in San Leandro will explain why there will will be pile driving at night to widen Interstate 880.

The sounds and inconveniences of highway construction will soon be coming to San Leandro as CalTrans begins work on widening Interstate 880 from Hegenberger Lane through Marina Boulevard to add carpool lanes.

These are known as HOV or High-Occupancy Vehicle lanes.

Construction will mean some inconveniences for commuters along I-880 and noise for residents in west San Leandro neighborhoods.

On Wednesday, January 16, CalTrans will hold two open houses to explain the need for the work, its schedule, and what will be done to mitigate the noise and bother.

During construction, CalTrans will be doing pile driving to support new, wider overpasses at Davis Street and Marina Boulevard.

State officials recently told city council members that some of the pile driving would be done from 10 pm to 5 am during several nights in May.

"Pile driving is literally something that will drive people crazy," Councilman Jim Prola said in a story by the Oakland Tribune.

Whether CalTrans adheres to those plans or makes changes will likely be among the topics that come up at the open houses Wednesday.

The schedule is:

Open House: Wednesday, January 16, 2013 – 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 14709 Catalina Street, San Leandro, CA.

Open House: Wednesday, January 16, 2013 – 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Woodrow Wilson Elementary School,– Multi-Purpose (Lunch) Room, 1300 Williams Street, San Leandro, CA.

I'm going to the meeting at Wilson on Wednesday night. This could be a major pain for me as I suffer from migraines and lack of sleep is a main trigger.

Why does the pile driving have to be done at night rather than in the daytime? That's nuts!

And you think that plunking down a very low income housing project in the middle of cheap housing inRead More San Leandro is more like Castro Valley? or more like West/East Oakland. It's more like the latter. Can't wait for the drive-by shootings and muggings to ratchet up when we thrown away $9M in tax dollars on building a new downtown SL BART ghetto.

It is unfortunate the Bridge has been unable to stop all crime in Oakland. Sadly, that lesson willRead More probably apply to San Leandro too.

What brand is the pastry cutter?
Rowena Peñalba June 18, 2013 at 11:27 pm
It's slightly used but I don't remember where I bought it from. I don't see any brand name on it. IRead More just priced it based on the lowest one available on Amazon. If you're interested, make me an offer. Maybe we can agree on it. Thanks for your inquiry.

Leah, do you have the authorization from Disney for the use of the copyrighted Dumbo character youRead More use for your blog? I thought that the policy of Patch was to deny access to non-authorized materials such as this.

Nope.
