AC Transit Workers Reject Contract Proposal

Transit system, union leaders trying to decide what to do next.

Written by David Mills

AC Transit employees voted overwhelming this past weekend to reject a contract offer negotiated by union leaders and management, according to a story in the San Jose Mercury News.

Members of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 192 voted 576 to 275 to reject the proposal that would have given them a 9.5 percent raise over three years, the Mercury News reported.

The contract was agreed upon by union and management representatives on Aug. 6.

Union leaders will meet soon to decide their next steps. There is no comment yet from AC Transit.

The rejection comes as BART and its unions continue to negotiate during a 60-day cooling off period in their contract dispute.
