Woman Found Stabbed To Death In San Leandro; Cops Say It's Not Related To Tuesday's Rape

A woman in her early 20s was found slumped over in a car in on the 300 block of Best Avenue in what police say was a deliberate killing.

 

A woman in her early 20s was found stabbed to death Friday afternoon on Best Avenue near San Leandro Boulevard, police said.

San Leandro Police Lieutenant Rick DeCosta said Friday's incident was not connected to the rape that occurred Tuesday when a man with a knife in her home on Bridge Road.

The rape suspect remained at large as of Friday night.

Police offered few details about the Best Avenue killing.

According to their report, police received a 911 call at 4:02 pm. They arrived at the 300 block of Best Avenue to find a woman with multiple stab wounds slumped over on the driver's seat of a car.

It's not clear whether the woman was still alive when police arrived but emergency medical personnel who assisted them pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

Police said interviews with witnesses convince them that the suspect specifically targeted the victim and that the stabbing was not a random act.

Police released no description of the suspect, nor did they say whether the stabbing occurred on Best Avenue.

The name of the victim is not being released until proper identification and family notifications can be made.

The death on Best Avenue is the second killing in San Leandro this year.

In January, a 15-year-old girl with an infant was stabbed to death in her home by the baby's 19-year-old father, .

In 2011 there were seven murders in the city, including a outside a tattoo party in October that claimed the life of a San Leandro High student.

In 2010 four people were killed in San Leandro.
