Vehicle Fire in San Leandro Thursday Morning

Alameda County firefighters extinguished a fire that started from a car in the house's garage Thursday morning.

On Thursday morning, around 9:36 a.m., a single-alarm fire took place at a house on 14850 Boulevard Court, San Leandro.

On the way to the house, Alameda County firefighters could see thick, black heavy smoke, said battalion chief, Ronnie Oats.

Crews discovered that a newly purchased car in the garage started the fire. Firefighters were able to put out the vehicle fire after seven minutes of arriving to the scene.

There was substantial damage to the garage, around $20,000 worth, according to Oats. The home itself had minimal damage.

The homeowner was not home during the fire, and crews were able to rescue an animal that was inside the house. No injuries were reported.
