Vacant San Leandro Home Burns for Second Time

A vacant home in San Leandro was completely destroyed in a fire this morning after being damaged in another blaze earlier this year, fire officials said.
Firefighters arriving at 8:57 a.m. found flames shooting from all sides of the two-story home at 1905 Alvarado St., according to the Alameda County Fire Department.
It took firefighters about 20 minutes to control the blaze, which completely destroyed the home, fire spokeswoman Aisha Knowles said.
Firefighters have not determined where the fire's point of origin was and have not sent anyone into the home because the building's structural integrity is compromised, Battalion Chief Ron Figuera said.
Knowles said investigators are looking into the possibility that squatters cooking inside the vacant home started the fire, but the cause remains under investigation.
No other homes were damaged in the fire and no one was injured. It was the second time the vacant home burned this year.
It was damaged in a two-alarm fire early in the morning on Feb. 21, Knowles said. There was heavy fire on the first and second floors that day and it took about 45 minutes to control it.
