Unidentified Dead Woman's Dress Released As Clue

Victim died after she was found clinging to rocks in the estuary along Jack London Square. Police hope someone will spot the dress and ID the woman.

Bay City News--Oakland police are seeking help from the public to identify a woman who died after she was found clinging to rocks in the estuary along Jack London Square on Thursday.

Police released a photograph on Monday of the distinctive dress the woman was wearing when she was discovered without identification Thursday morning at the end of Clay Street.

They hope someone may recognize it  and call the Oakland police Major Crimes Unit at (510) 238-3821.

Police described the victim as an African-American woman between 30 and 40 years old, standing five feet seven inches tall, and weighing 200 pounds. She had brown hair and brown eyes.

She was discovered still conscious and breathing in the water, and was taken to a local hospital, where she later died.

The case is currently being investigated as a homicide, though police are still unsure what the cause of death was.
