A routine traffic stop on a busy San Leandro street led to an arrest on gun-related charges.
The incident happened shortly after midnight Friday when a San Leandro police officer spotted a car with expired registration near Lewelling Boulevard.
Police say Officer Darin Pasut stopped the red 1988 Honda. The driver, who was not identified, was accompanied by passenger James Fallat, age 20.
The driver was on parole. Police say that entitled Pasut to search him and the vehicle.
Pasut informed Fallat he was going to conduct this search. Police say he asked the passenger if he was carrying any contraband. Fallat said he "had a revolver in his right front pants pocket," according to a police report.
Pasut then handcuffed Fallat and found a loaded .38 caliber revolver in his right front pants pocket.
Fallat is now under arrest on charges of carrying a concealed weapon.
The driver was released.
