Two Oakland residents have been arrested and charged with possession of stolen property after a patrol officer stopped the car they were driving and found checkbooks that had been reported stolen this summer from two different homes in San Leandro.
Police say the arrests occurred after an officer stopped a maroon-colored 1998 Infinity at 1:10 am Tuesday for a vehicle violation. The officer found probable cause to search the car and found the two checkbooks.
The driver, 22-year-old Dante Neal of Oakland and passenger Brenda Williams, 32, also of Oakland, were taken into custody and charged with possession of stolen property.
Police say they are investigating whether Neal and Williams were involved in the burglaries.
