Tip Leads to the Arrest of Car Burglary Suspect

Around 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, an alert resident observed Jason Nora, 26, rummaging through parked car in the parking lot of 1400 Carpentier Street and called police.

An Oakland man suspected of breaking into a car in San Leandro Wednesday morning, was arrested after an alert citizen spotted him and called police.

Around 11:30 a.m., an alert resident observed Jason Nora, 26, rummaging through parked car in the parking lot of 1400 Carpentier Street, according to San Leandro Police.

The resident did not recognize the Nora and he suspected the vehicle did not belong to him. The citizen immediately called 911 and reported his observations to SLPD's dispatch center, SLPD reported.

Officers from several divisions were sent to the area to investigate the scene. Within minutes, an officer assigned to SLPD's Crime Suppression Unit observed Nora matching the description trying to walk away from the scene.

Officers attempted to stop Nora, but he ignored their commands and tried to run off. Officers chased Nora and detained him several blocks away, according to SLPD.

SLPD officers determined that the vehicle did not belong to Nora and it had been broken into. Nora was arrested for burglary and resisting arrest and he was transported to jail.

“This was a textbook example of members of our community and our police department working collaboratively to combat crime," Lt. Randall Brandt said in a press release. "The citizen recognized suspicious activity and reported their observations immediately. We were able to send resources to the area and arrest the suspect responsible.”
