SWAT Teams Swarm to San Leandro Police Department for Fitness Challenge

31 SWAT teams will be converging at the San Leandro police department for the 6th Annual SLPD SWAT Fitness Challenge Thursday morning.

Thursday morning at 8 a.m., 31 SWAT teams will be converging at the San Leandro police department for the 6th Annual SLPD SWAT Fitness Challenge, according to Lt. Randall Brandt of San Leandro Police.

The teams are traveling from as far as Bakersfield to attend, he said in an email. There are 22 police agencies from eight counties who are participating.

A briefing will be held at the San Leandro Police Department at 9 a.m. and then the teams will participate in an endurance style race that will cover more than 13 miles on the trails with other fitness related challenges in between, Brandt said.

This event brings agencies from throughout the region together to share training ideas and build relationships. These relationships benefit the teams during critical incidents, Brandt added.
