Suspects Arrested in Oakland Shooting Deaths of San Leandro Girl and Friend

Police aren't yet releasing the names of the two men and teenage boy who are in custody for the deaths of Raquel Gerstel, 15, of San Leandro and her friend Bobbie Sartain, 16, who were shot in East Oakland three weeks ago.

By Bay City News

Three suspects have been arrested in the brutal shooting deaths of two teenage girls near Brookdale Park in East Oakland three weeks ago, police confirmed today.

However, police aren't yet releasing the names of the two men and the teenage boy who are in custody for the deaths of 15-year-old Raquel Gerstel and 16-year-old Bobbie Sartain in the 2600 block of Minna Avenue, near Brookdale, shortly before 6 a.m. Nov. 25.

It's expected that police will present the case to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office on Tuesday to consider filing charges against the suspects.

The two girls were friends who grew up together in Alameda. Gerstel lived in San Leandro and was a freshman at Arroyo High School in San Lorenzo.

Sartain lived on High Street in Oakland, a few blocks away from the scene of the shooting, but it's unclear if she was attending school.

The shooting deaths of the teenage girls sparked community outrage
because they were each shot multiple times.

Oakland police have provided few details to the news media but Jayne Nayman, who lives near the shooting scene and heard the shooting, said police told residents that they found 36 shell casings at the scene.

who ever they are, and the punk teen age kid wants to hang around with the bad boys then treat him like a big boy .keep them all in jail and from the jail house tocourt to prison . now where did the gun or guns come from sorry for the young girls . but these bad folks do not need to be around any more . lets hope the cops can file a lot of charges against them .

... and yet there are those that still feel that we shouldn't have the death penalty. These evil backward bastards should fry. Not another morsel of food. Not a single breath of air. Not a dime of tax payer money to let them live the rest of their lives in secluded protection. What a waste!

Two white girls get shot.....the Oakland police find suspects and make the arrest fast! Hundreds of young black kids killed, most of the murders go unsolved with little to no effort from Oakland PD...hmmmmmmmmmmmm!

TWO WHITE GIRLS KILLED BY BLACK KIDS AND NO RALLIES,NO BURGLARIES OF LOCAL STORES,HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM.........NO SCREEEEAMS ABOUT RACISM HMMMMMMMMMM.....
Justin Marsh December 27, 2012 at 05:37 pm
People usually are upset and protest when the police shoot and kill a young person! Especially while they are in hand cuffs! Whites, blacks, Asians and Hispanics were at the rallies you mentioned. So I don't get your point. If you want to get racial about it we can just look at mass murders, shooting of presidents, shooting school children, blowing up federal buildings, shooting up movie theaters, stealing peoples life savings ,enslaving people......on and on and on! Guns should be out of the hands of all stupid people white and black! My earlier point was that the media and police departments handle situations involving white deaths much differently then black deaths. Sorry for your anger!

And you think that plunking down a very low income housing project in the middle of cheap housing inRead More San Leandro is more like Castro Valley? or more like West/East Oakland. It's more like the latter. Can't wait for the drive-by shootings and muggings to ratchet up when we thrown away $9M in tax dollars on building a new downtown SL BART ghetto.

It is unfortunate the Bridge has been unable to stop all crime in Oakland. Sadly, that lesson willRead More probably apply to San Leandro too.

Leah, do you have the authorization from Disney for the use of the copyrighted Dumbo character youRead More use for your blog? I thought that the policy of Patch was to deny access to non-authorized materials such as this.
