Suspects Accused of Ripping Gold Chain from Man's Neck

Police say the suspects are gang members.

Two suspects allegedly ripped a gold chain off a man's neck in San Leandro on Sunday afternoon because they thought he was a rival gang member, police said.

Police responded to a report of an altercation in the 14300 block of Washington Avenue around 4:15 p.m. on Sunday, according to San Leandro police Lt. Randall Brandt.`

Jake Escobar, 19, of Manteca, and Daniel Pineda, 23, of Lathrop, allegedly assaulted the male victim, took his jewelry and fled when officers arrived on the scene, police said.

Officers successfully detained both suspects and recovered the gold chain, Brandt said.

Escobar and Pineda were both booked into county jail, according to Brandt.
