SLPD Surveillance Video Program Aims to Help Fight Crime

San Leandro Police Department is asking those who use private video surveillance at their home or business to register their cameras.

San Leandro Police Department announced its new video program aimed at helping to fight crime.

SLPD is asking those who currently utilize private video surveillance at their home or business to register their video surveillance camera at the following website link.

"Video surveillance is one of the best methods for apprehending criminals and convicting suspects who are caught in the act of committing a crime," according to a SLPD release.

As crimes occur at nearby locations, camera owners are not always aware that their system may have captured information that could help solve the crime. In addition, police are also not always aware who may have potentially vital information from the crime.

By registering with SLPD, the department can quickly identify nearby cameras that may have captured criminal activity. After registering the camera, owners would only contacted by SLPD if there is a criminal incident in the vicinity of their security camera.

Police personnel, if necessary, may request to view the camera footage in order to assist in the investigation.
